3 Reasons to Get a Second Opinion
1. Verify a Diagnosis – it has been said that diagnosing medical conditions is part art and part science. There are times when two different providers can review the same medical file and diagnose two different conditions with two very different courses of treatment. Before you begin a care plan, it’s important to be sure that you’ve received a proper diagnosis.
2. Explore All Treatment Options – does your current treatment plan include invasive procedures, such as surgery or injections, or prescription drugs? Are there are other, less risky treatment options available? When exploring treatment options, it is crucial that you ask about the potential risks and benefits of each of the options you are considering.
3. Find a Doctor You Trust – It is important that your treating physician truly listens to you, understands your condition, and takes the time to answer all of your questions.
Will My Doctor Be Upset? Second opinions are common in the medical community. A good physician will understand your need to speak with more than one expert when faced with an important medical decision. He or she should encourage you to get all of the information that you need in order to feel confident in choosing the treatment plan that’s best for you.
No-Cost Second Opinions At Joint & Spine, we provide complimentary second opinion consultations. During the appointment, one of our chiropractors will sit down with you to discuss your condition, review your current X-rays and/or MRI results (*see note below), and provide a second opinion on your current diagnosis.
In many cases, we have non-surgical, drug-free treatment options that are as effective, if not more effective, than other medical options. And, if we don’t feel that we can help you, we’ll tell you. No matter the result, there is no cost, and no obligation.
*NOTE: Please bring a copy of your current records and tests to the appointment. If you need assistance in requesting these records, please call our office at 715-623-2123 at least 3 days before your appointment to allow time for the records to be transferred. Complimentary consultations do not include taking new X-rays.
